Skinny love...

Ohhh I posted my previous post on facebook and have had loads more pageviews...perhaps I shouldn't keep my little blog all to myself and other scrappers. I sometimes worry that it is a bit geeky to non-scrappers and think they will percieve me as a wierdo who sits in her spare room cutting out flowers and hearts...does anyone else think this? So anyways back to my "geeky" scrapping. I tried two new techniques on this page: 1) Using lace cardstock as a mask and misting with two different colours. The result of which I am totally loving - a lot more interesting than just using the lace cardstock. 2) Julie Kirk's cute little cartoon style stamping technique. I have not described it well so check it out here. I didn't do a strip as I didn't really have space. I also don't have any cute little stamps of people, so had to settle for a squirrel as it's all I had, but it did fit in well with the layout. This is completed using part of the lyrics from Aerosmith's Livin' On the edge for Scrap it with a Song challenge. In my teens I was a big Aerosmith fan and I remember distinctly using one of their albums on random to decide which boy I should go out with. Ahh the innocence of youth! This kiss...

So I *almost* done scrapping my wedding pics just a few more to go (actually the WHOLE reception still to go!!!) I used the studio challenge on masking and decided to use lips to go with the title, which was inspired by Faith Hill lyrics from this challenge. I masked the title too with silver glimmer mist. I had a few issues peeling the stickers off and they ended up taking a layer of the paper with them - but in the end it made a good effect and I edged it in black and filled it with polka dots.

I cropped the picture and then distressed the edges - my usual style.

I filled the lips with the journalling and included a few more quotations from the song. I focused on the "you may now kiss the bride moment." My dad is the Bishop in our church so he married us which made it even more special.

The little picture at the bottom was matted with pink paper and then stamped with my fav polka dot stamp to tie in the whole theme.

This is probably my last post for at least a week as we are off to Malta in the small hours tomorrow. Cannot wait. Got lots of ironing and packing to do. Hope you are all having a great summer holiday filled with scrapping and fun. xoxo

Hold me closer...

Totally love the song Tiny Dancer, but didn't have any cute pics of kiddies dancing. I was thinking of using the lyric "Blue Jean baby" but then went for Hold me closer...babe! A modern twist on it. These are pics of the sunset we took after a date one night. I kept the page quite simple but clashed papers a lot more than I normally would - I was going for sunset colours. I bordered the main pic with paint to make it stand out and give it texture - I also had to paint the 'e' black as I had run out as usual!!! The challenge is here. I like this layout as it is simple and keeps the focus on the pictures. These challenges help me to be more creative and to get past the wall that sometimes stands in my way!

Doing the double...

I am not referring to Wimbledon or the world cup instead the double is my layout. I was inspired by this sketch from here and got the idea for title from the lyrics of this weeks scrapping the music challenge. I have done double layouts in the past but it always * seems * like more work, however I had loads of pics from a recent trip to my parents and so used them and am very pleased with the results. Here is the complete finished product: I stamped the title and then used some lettering to emphasise the words home and belong and it was from an SEI set which co-ordinated with the polka dot runner. My trustee Martha Stewart border punch edged the middle panel. I also stamped flowers all along the top and bottom to jazz up the kraft cardstock, I then embossed a few with glittery powder to make them stand out.

You may notice that in the above pic I added a "tail" to my L as I felt it looked funny as it was...but I am a bit tired and so didn't bother to retake all the pics.

I used a few journalling spots and a date stamp to add some details about the weekend. I also added a polka dot button in the middle of the three flowers - gotta love the polka dots!

So I urge you all to have a go at a double layout as it is great for multi photos and for stretching your supplies. My next post will be a closer look at my LO for scrap that poetry - it's another great challenge and a poem that I chose as it was read out at my wedding, so give it a go...

* Lost in Music! *

So I have always loved Aerosmith's Don't wanna miss a thing and am still trying to scrap my wedding pics. I do love scrapping them, but they are quite samey so I need to break it up a bit or be really inspired to scrap it. This challenge certainly inspired me! My sister, Tamara, is obsessed with movie soundtracks and I guess some of that has stuck with me. How could I not use my gorgeous new round page??! I was trying to avoid purple, but I couldn't help it - most of my stash is this colour. I thought that this lyric really complimented the photo.

I made this frame using a cardboard frame and then I wrapped it in tissue paper and then stamped with my new INK IT (hmm maybe it isn't called this but my scrap room is sooo far away and I am sooo comfy in my throw!) gold stamp pad. I got a pack of 20 of them and they are so juicy and really stand out. A glimmer mist heart to emphasise the word LOSE. Looking at it now it isn't very straight, but I prefer the grungy look!

I made a little flower out of tissue paper and inked edges. I felt the top corner was a bit bare without it!

Then I added some buttons on the bottom for a bit of interest.

The "one" where we went to Pizza Hut...

This random pic taken just before our wedding last June. We were in Pizza Hut with my sister and her hubby (hence the slice!) I picked the lyric "the one" from the Nickleback song on this week's STM challenge. I used coredination cardstock and then used a fancy page as a stencil and dabbed purple paint round the edge, I then edged that with glitter glue. I like bling!! The title is cut out of grafittied cardstock and inked and glittered. I then punched out random circles of it (it is double sided) I then layered some with little flower sequins. I completed the title with stamped letters and an actual heart. I love using raw cardboard on layouts.

I matted the photo on coredinations black cardstock. Then I layered it with a border punch pink piece and some ribbon. The stickers were a recent gift from my mom, I think from the QVC shop in Shropshire (LOVE that place!) there are loads of cute phrases - they will be featured a lot from now on.

Pretty pleased with how this layout just fell into place. I will defo be making more paint borders from now on...

Here comes the sun...doo, doo, doo, do...

What an apt choice of layout after a rained out bank holiday. Well rained out may be a slight exaggeration - itermittant showers is a more realistic term. So this is my layout for this weeks scrapping the music challenge (gotta love that blog!) I chose the lyric "Give me Sunshine" I was going to use the following lyric - when all I see is gray, but it didn't fit on the page! I avoided going for the obvious yellows and felt that green and pink were very spring time and bold. I used white paint to create the masked title and to replicate rays of sun coming from the green thickers. I must apologise for the quality of the close-ups. I am criminally impatient (as Nigella says in her cookbooks) and so just wanted to get the pics up. I like the bling on the "i".

The green felt flowers were spiced up with button blooms and blinging petals.

The journalling on the right reads exploring Roundhay Park. On the left the circular journalling reads:

You are the cake in my cup,

The down when I am up.

I then realised this sounds a bit negative so added-

(to no good!) as he is very good at telling me to behave and to be nicer about people.

Aren't these flowers just gorgeous? My fav colours and a bargain from Asda.

So hope you enjoyed my bright, blinging page. It has lots of sparkle and even a cut out border from a patterned page - something I rarely do.

Just the two of us...

So as I wait in anticipation for the hubster to get back from footy and whisk me off to the Imax to see Alice in Wonderland I put the finishing touches to my scrapping the music layout and snapped it (sadly the sun is setting and so it's not great light quality!) I love, love, love this song and it will always remind me of camping trips in France as one trip that was just the girls on dad (the summer we joked that my parents were seperated as we had diff holidays with each!) this was the only tape we had in the car - Will Smith Just the Two of Us - and I loved it even after one hundred plays. Dad did not feel the same. So this is a pic of my sister Mara and i being water babies in Brittany. This was not that holiday as I was about four in the pic and that holiday was when I was 14. It's not a great quality snap, but it has great sentiment attached as I loved those trips. I used blues and yellows and tried to make the embellies look antiquey(sp!?) and vintagey. I distressed and inked all the edges and made the flower from old book pages. I love the big spotty brad and the misted/masked title. Enjoy!
